Trustees

Community Projects North Devon is managed by a committee comprising voluntary members of the community who have a particular interest in our work

Why become a trustee?

Community Projects North Devon (formerly North Devon Housing Society) works in northern Devon to relieve poverty, homelessness and isolation, and to maximise people’s life chances. A local charity, the organisation was registered in 1984 as an Industrial and Provident Society, but was originally founded more than 30 years ago.

Community Projects North Devon today has a range of projects which offer support, care and training for

  • people who are homeless or are threatened with homelessness;
  • those recovering from alcohol and drug problems;
  • those in the community who have additional support needs;
  • people with a learning disability.

This work is supported and directed by our voluntary Committee of Management.

Trustees in the Community

Organisations working in the Community and Voluntary Sector (CVS) rely on the help, support and guidance of their trustees to deliver their programmes. Such organisations exist to better society and the communities in which they exist. Trustees are vital to the health of the organisation and ensuring that the programmes are those that are needed.

  • Trustees will often be the link into understanding communities and/or areas of special interest.
  • Trustees will bring specialist skills, and will oversee the business functions of Community Projects North Devon (finance, personnel, health and safety).
  • Trustees will be the public face of Community Projects North Devon and will connect the organisation into partners and other important bodies.
  • Trustees are people, and their personal contacts and attributes are equally as important to CPND.
  • Trustees will provide the roles of Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer, and will ensure appropriate governance.
  • Trustees may have to work hard, but will also gain from the work - meeting new people, learning new skills, contributing to their community.

Community Projects North Devon welcomes expressions of interest from people who may wish to become trustees.  All current members of the Committee of Management would be pleased to discuss their experiences, or the officers of the organisation are also available.

If you are interested, please make contact with us by phoning 01271 322013, or email info@cpnd.org

A list of the current projects managed by Community Projects North Devon is available, and each project welcomes enquiries about its specific work.

Community Projects North Devon is very grateful to our Trustees who serve on the Management Committee, providing guidance and wise advice for the organisation as a whole.
